QUICKBOOKS PRO WITH PAYROLL BEST BUY SOFTWARE
QuickBooks Mac is built to use the user interface framework of a Mac, so the way you access different modules and sections of the software is very Mac-centric. All of the other versions of QuickBooks (not the Online version of course) run on Windows. QuickBooks Mac is a different software package than all of the others and is not the same product as the rest. We place this one first as this is an easy decision for you if your company runs on all Macs. First, you will learn a description of each QuickBooks version and then we’ll help you narrow down your choices.

For a vast majority of small businesses, QuickBooks Pro will likely meet your needs, but its smart to consider all of the options before investing several hundred dollars into a solution. Honestly I haven't seen much value come out of the yearly upgrades for the last few years. Each version of the QuickBooks small business accounting software offers different features to meet the specific needs of your business. Wait for a sale or buy last years version on the cheap and you've got a great program you can use for years with no additional cost. If you have few employees and do your payroll manually you can use the same version of QB for several years.

However, I would be perfectly happy not having to shell out the $300 to upgrade to the 2010 version and continue to pay $200 for my yearly payroll subscription. If I can manage to talk the CSR into a deal like last year I can renew payroll for $150. I picked up my 2010 copy last week at Staples since it was on sale for $300 and I will have to renew my payroll subscription in Feb as well. I use the contractor version which retails for $500 by itself. Of course if you keep an eye out for deals you can get it a bit cheaper, but it's still a forced upgrade and it's unfair. So assuming you only need one license and are using the basic pro with payroll version, you are paying $500 per year. Depending on what version you're running the cost will be $300+. This means you need to purchase QB2010 in order to continue using Payroll after June.

The QB program itself and the payroll module are basically two separate programs.Īt the end of June your payroll will stop working again because you will not be able to update your QB2009 program to get the latest tax tables. I suspect from your posts you may have purchased the 'pro with payroll' version so there may be something different with that version that I'm unaware of, but that's how QB generally works. 1st so you will have to renew it for another year at about $200. Your payroll will stop working after Feb. Your QB2009 program is valid until the end of June. Your payroll subscription is valid until Feb. Shewolf, how do you figure that this costs $500+? I thought the only cost associated is the upfront software cost which was about $200.

So I guess this means that I don't really need to upgrade until June 2010? I was able to update the latest tax table on Dec. Hu$tlah wrote: ↑Thanks for the info guys. My rant is over, I guess I just hope that if I complain about it enough then maybe someday they will change their policies.

I really hate that they won't allow us to use an older version as long as we want even if we are willing to pay for the payroll subscription. Anyone with half a brain could easily check the CRA website for the new rates twice a year and plug those two numbers manually into Quickbooks.

Intuits reasoning behind the forced upgrade? So you can download the updated tax tables. Because of the forced upgrade you will spend anywhere between $500-$2000 every single year, depending on version and # of users.Ĭompare that to paying your bookkeeper for a little extra time (not much really) to do payroll manually with a simple Dean payroll book ($20?), the CRA online tax deductions calculator (free) and a simple excel spreadsheet for your payroll liabilities. Sorry I wanted to add something else to this thread for anyone who's reading this thread and considering using the QB payroll module:įor a business with 10 or less employees, the payroll add-on is not worth the expense.
